Submission Guidelines

Below are the basic guidelines for submitting reviews to this blog. 
Please read over the general faq and formatting instructions carefully before submitting your review.

General FAQ: 

  • Who can submit to this site?
Anyone, as long as you follow the submission guidelines below.
  • What happens if I exceed the sentence restrictions? Will my submission still be accepted?  
No, only submissions that meet the exact formatting instructions will be reviewed. We want to keep the reading load manageable so clear and concise entries are essential. Consult the samples below each section to get a better idea of what we are looking for.

Theory Reviews

  • Post title (Theory Review: Author's name, text title, year of publication) 
  • Chicago style bibliographic citation of text
  • Original photo of book (optional)  
  • 5-sentence summary of text
  • Text at a glimpse: 
    • Main argument (2 sentences)- the "thesis" of the text 
    • Exigency (2 sentences)- the work's motive or purpose, i.e. the "so what?" question 
    • Methodology (general summary, 2 sentences; specific theoretical interventions, 1-2 sentences each)- refers to the method of investigation/ analysis, including archives and the author's engagement with other theoretical perspectives 
    • Key terms (1-2 sentence definitions)- the important terms that animate a particular text, i.e. neologisms the author "invents," words that they redefine and/or grant new meanings to
  • Chapters (optional)
    • Overview of how chapters are organized (2-3 sentences) 
    • Title of chapter 
    • 2-3 sentence summary 
  • 5 questions about the text
    • No more than 2-3 "parts" per question
    • Responses should be no more than 2-4 sentences (optional)
